The Last Song
by Nicholas Sparks
reviewed by Sarah Montgomery, class of 2017
Sparks is a brilliant author who weaves messages between the lines. Reading between the lines is key in reading this book. He engages the reader in his novel The Last Song. To an inattentive reader, it is a simple story about a girl named Ronnie who lives with her dying dad over a summer and falls in love. A good reader can see how Sparks leaves the reader with the truth about love, family, and the consequences of actions and inaction. It is beautiful to watch Ronnie grow as a person in such a short time and you are constantly praying things turn out okay. You see the beauty of a relationship between brother and sister, children and father, enemy to self, lover to lover, friend to friend, and God to self. The most important messages he leaves is that you must truly get to know someone for yourself and that true love never dies.
