Genuine Fraud

Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart is a mystery novel, and it truly is full of suspense. Each of the characters are just as mysterious as the story. Jule and Imogen are both strong independent women who do not take no for an answer, and both have completely blocked out all family. They come together by "chance," as Immie thinks. But in reality, Jule is on many missions, but keeps everything to herself and does not truly open up to anyone but one person who completely makes her lose herself; Paolo. Even though she feels the most vulnerable and open with him, she does not tell him her real name, and when she is with him, she lives as Imogen. Lastly, Imogen has a boyfriend, Forrest, but Jule and Immie both know that someone as perfect as Immie could not possibly love him, and that he is just a "placeholder" for someone to love. Immie does not tell Forrest anything, and instead tells everything to Jule. Eventually, all of Imogen's relationships start to shift, and Jule's whole world keeps turning around and around as her identity keeps changing. Lockhart writes in a very creative way that helps the reader understand what is going on more easily, while still keeping the story suspenseful. Lockhart writes backwards in a way. The chapter numbers are backwards, starting from the highest chapter number and most recent occurrences. Something is said, then it is explained in the next chapter. It keeps the book interesting and makes the reader feel a need to continue reading, as it certainly did for me. Because of this, I have never read a book faster, and I just could not put it down.
