Tolog Review: Murder on the Orient Express

Murder on the Orient Express
by Agatha Christie
reviewed by Ivana Alejo

The thrilling, mysterious book, Murder on the Orient Express, is an exciting read that keeps its audience on their toes all throughout the duration it takes to read it. Within the novel, readers can anticipate the exciting and terrifying tale of the much-loathed victim. This book keeps readers guessing and asking questions after questions, including the time old though, “Who done it?”

With so many confusing clues, and countervailing proof, how will the murder ever be solved? Along with the perturbing evidence, impossibly long list of suspects, and no indication of even the gender of the murderer, Hercule Poirot, lead detective in the case, is also in a race against time. He must find a way to solve this cruel act of haste and aggression before all possible suspects are let free once they arrive at their final destination. Left with so many motives, alibis, and suspects, the audience can find themselves completely stumped and at a total standstill on where to go next. Luckily, with the guidance of Poirot, they are taken through each and every detail in the crime, intricately woven in by Agatha Christie. She leaves room for interpretation, guessing, and failure all while keeping her audience interested and curiously frustrated, urging them to read more.

This book was a really fun, and extremely entertaining read. I particularly loved how each of the characters contrasted one another and how they constantly were pointing the fingers anywhere but at themselves. I would recommend this book to anyone who thoroughly enjoys novels that keep your heart pounding, and you mind continuously spinning new theories and explanations for who could’ve done it.
