Tolog Review: In Cold Blood

In Cold Blood
by Truman Capote
reviewed by Mattison Interian

In the quiet town of Holcomb, Kansas there was a murder of a family that set the town into mass hysteria. In Cold Blood is an amazing story about the murder of Herb, Bonnie, Nancy and Kenyon Clutter and how the crime is solved when there is almost no evidence left by the perpetrators, Perry and Dick. It was believed to be the perfect crime because no motive could be found, and if there is no motive then it is very difficult to see who would want to kill the Clutters. It is a tale of manipulation, greed, and rage for Perry and Dick and one full of struggle, confusion and eventually the sensation of solving something that was believed to be impossible for Alvin Dewey.

Truman Capote really conveyed how hard it was for the town to deal with the murders and how difficult it was for Alvin Dewey, the head detective on the case, to figure out who had committed the crime. In Cold Blood is based off of a true story and it has opened my eyes to how both the criminals and the detectives think after the crime has been committed. It has also showed me that no matter how hard it is to do something, eventually if you try hard enough you will get it.
