Tolog Review: In Cold Blood

In Cold Blood
by Truman Capote
reviewed by Wangyue Zhao

In Cold Blood is a novel written by Truman Capote. It is a novel that Truman Capote selected materials from a real murder in 1595 that happened on Herbert Clutter and his family. Herbert Clutter owns a big farm, so it let him became really successful. Because of he, his kids, Eveanna, Beverly, Nancy and Kenyon are also famous in their town. But they just killed by two men, Perry Smith and Richard Hickock. They killed Capotes because they want to take away their money. Perry and Richard though that they must have some money that stored in their safe, but actually Capote’s do not; they even do not have a safe in their house. Truman Capote told two men that they do not have a safe, and that it is impossible to let them have any money in safe. But Perry and Richard do not believe them, so they shoot Capotes and escaped. At last they impose death by hanging.

I think it is a really heavy novel. Not only shows by its subject matter, but also shows on how the author wrote this novel. The author’s words in this book is not a positive words; its not the words that can let reader felt happy, felt relax. But he is always creating an atmosphere that is going to put you in a really silence, and depressed world. But it makes me a little bit hard to read this book, cause this way to write a novel will create a lot of difficult part for me to understand. Though I cannot understand this book clearly, but I can still get the atmosphere that the author wanted to create, it also shows the success part of this novel. Truman Capote also paid a lot on this novel, it is a novel that mostly narrate a true story, but he still wrote a lot of details about this novel, so it shows that the author might paid many time on study about this murder.
