Paper Towns

reviewed by Clare Grimes
Do you believe in miracles or true love? John Green expresses miracles, throughout this love story, by saying that miracles do exist. Quentin is the main character in this book who lives next door to a girl named Margo. Both Margo and Quentin are seniors in high school. They are two completely different people. Margo is the “IT” girl in high school. Quentin and Margo were really good friends when they were younger. Quentin has always liked Margo. But Quentin realizes that Margo has changed a lot in high school. Quentin describes Margo as a person who loves adventures. Throughout high school Quentin and Margo seem to drift apart from each other. Quentin thinks that it is because he is not good enough for her since she has changed and he has not. Margo seems to be very selfish. His friends wonder why he is chasing after this girl for so long. His friends do not think that it is necessary to go after a girl who does not seem to notice him anymore. But you can tell that nobody would understand Quentin’s feelings towards her. Many things change throughout your life. People change a lot when they grow up. Many people who go from middle school to high school change a lot because they think that they have to change themselves in order for them to fit in with the new crowd, but they don’t. Have you ever encountered this in your life? Quentin tries to make an effort to stay close friends with Margo, but you will have to find out if they stay close friends throughout high school or not. Later on, one night Margo says she needs to borrow Quentin’s car and so both of them go out and do something, which you will have to find out. Quentin wakes up the next day and goes to school and realizes that Margo is a mystery. She has left clues all around for him. He tries to go and find her by using the clues. He starts his journey to find Margo, his true love, with his friends. While reading this book, you realize that true love does exist and it can be easy to find and hard to find. For Quentin, he knows who it is but he does not know where. At the end of the book, Quentin realizes that he does not see her like he thought he knew. She is playing hard to get and Quentin has made many efforts in trying to be with Margo. But you will have to see if Quentin finds Margo and if they get together.
